Learning Management Systems: A Look at EdmodoPosted: April 3, 2013 | |
Learning Management Systems (LMS) are key to setting up a web presence for your classroom. Basically, they consolidate all of your online course materials, assignments, and course outline/objectives into one place. It’s a bonus if students can interact with you and their peers on the LMS by adding content, commenting, and asking questions.
LMS come in many forms. You can create your own LMS using a blog, website, and/or wiki. In the education world you probably know of the big LMS providers like Moodle, Blackboard, and Edmodo. Edmodo is one of the most popular amongst the K-12 school system.
I decided to explore Edmodo a bit more. I’ve shared some of its best features in my Beginner’s Guide to Edmodo video at the top of this post. In my video I show you the Edmodo user experience and discuss some of the main features. If you are considering using Edmodo for an LMS my video will give you an idea of what to expect before you commit to it.
To create the little tutorial I used Camtasia screen casting software. This is an amazing tool for any teacher, and very easy to learn. I definitely recommend downloading their 30 day free trial to test it out.
I am interested in learning more about Edmodo. Please comment with your experiences. Are there better LMS out there? What’s your favourite LMS?
